A Texan’s New Favorite Boot

Founded by boot business giant Randy Watson, R. Watson Boots is a family owned and operated company providing heirloom quality western boots to those that love the outdoors and have a deep respect for heritage and craftsmanship. With over four decades of experience in the industry, the folks at R. Watson Boots take care of their people – whether it’s the consumer, the retail partner, or the employee.

An opportunity for growth

R. Watson Boots built and defined a solid brand for itself in its first four years of business; however, the company ran into issues with communicating that brand effectively to retail partners and the general public. After securing a deal with the Texas Rangers Police Force to create the official boot of the Texas Rangers Bicentennial Celebration in 2023, R. Watson knew it was time to call in the experts.

Ryan Watson, Vice President of R. Watson Boots and son of Randy Watson, approached The Fort with three goals in mind:

  1. To craft a versatile, shareable written representation of the R. Watson story,
  2. To create stunning visual and written assets for the Texas Rangers Bicentennial Celebration, and
  3. To strengthen brand awareness among the general public.

Creative that’s multifaceted and multifunctional

First order of business – sharing the R. Watson story. Our team sat down with Randy and Ryan to determine what kind of story they wanted to tell and how they wanted to tell it. After researching and understanding the client’s end goal, The Fort determined the following deliverables to be the best bang for R. Watson’s buck:

  • Feature article on how R. Watson came to be and where the company is headed
  • Extended feature article using the content above, including Randy’s professional endeavors leading up to R. Watson
  • Press release using varied snippets of the content listed above

Second order of business – the Texas Rangers Bicentennial Celebration. Our team strategized and created a comprehensive package to provide not only high caliber deliverables, but a quality of service that would further strengthen The Fort’s relationship with R. Watson Boots. The package included the following:

  • 12 still product photos
  • 12 lifestyle product photos
  • Press release to send to news outlets
  • Social media content
  • Museum case copy

Third order of business – strengthening brand awareness. The R. Watson team specifically wanted to focus on their website’s blog. Before The Fort’s involvement, the blog only featured three posts from the website’s original launch. Ryan wanted to increase the amount of content and utilize that content in multiple ways, like adapting it for sales reps to use in R. Watson’s retailer partner stores. The Fort’s plan of action for addressing this objective included the following:

  • Monthly blog post content ideation and creation
  • Adaptations of blog post content for other mediums, such as email marketing

Results

Both the feature article/press release project and the comprehensive package for the Texas Rangers Bicentennial Celebration received positive feedback and solidified a collaborative relationship between R. Watson Boots and The Fort. Thousands of museum visitors have admired the photography and copy in the R. Watson Boots exhibit at the Texas Rangers Police Force Museum in Waco, Texas, since March of 2023.

Website traffic increased after the blog post “How to Choose the Perfect Pair of Western Boots” went live in May of 2023. Sales representatives in western wear stores across the country have found this additional content helpful in sharing the R. Watson story with customers, ultimately increasing sales.
